PROCEDURES & GUIDELINES measures the degree in which precedents, rules, instructions, or procedures are available to guide or restrict your duties, i.e., policies, reference manuals, handbooks, legislation, regulations, etc.
From the list below, please select the level of procedures and guidelines that are most representative of your position.
    
Simple, step-by-step instructions which detail the sequence and/or timing of work tasks are readily available for the employee to follow. This may include food recipes, instuction for mixing cleaning supplies, etc.
    
Complicated, detailed work instructions covering all important aspects of the work assignment are defined for the employee to follow. This may include shop/ automotive repair and other complex procedural manuals.
    
Work procedures have been established and a small number of specific guidelines are available for the employee to follow. Most tasks follow procedures however, latitude is permitted because of changing work circumstances.The employee must use judgment to select the most appropriate guidelines, references, procedures or established alternatives to follow. In some cases, the employee makes minor deviations to adapt the guidelines as needed.
    
At this level, work is guided by substantially diversified business, academic or specialized procedures. Most work assignments encountered involve differing situations and the employee has latitude to consider which among many procedures should be followed to achieve the best result. The employee must interpret and adapt policies, regulations, precedents, and work directions for application to the specific problem at hand.
    
At this level, employees are guided by general policies and principles rather than procedures. Guidelines or procedures are scarce and limited. The employee may use initiative to research and analyze trends and in turn, develops new methods or proposed policies.
    
At this level, guidelines are broadly stated and nonspecific and are typically found as broad policy statements and legislation which require extensive interpretation. The employee must use judgment to determine the intent of the policies, legislation or guidelines that do exist and then plans thier work accordingly. Employees at this level are recognized as a technical authority in the development and interpretation of guidelines.
    
At this level, the employee is guided only by the framework of business philosophy and cultural standards. The employees helps shape the strategic direction of the organization or school district, consistent with its charter, and the requirements for the organization's survival and continuity.
