Supervision
SUPERVISION RECEIVED measures the frequency and manner in which work priorities, assignments and instructions are established and given to you.
From the list below, please select the level of supervision that is most representative of your position.
    
Work is completed under direct and continuous supervision. The employee must follow step-by-step, clear, detailed, and specific instructions. The work product or service is not complete until checked and signed off by a supervisor or senior, lead worker.
    
Work is completed under frequent supervision. The supervisor is typically nearby or in close proximity and may periodically check-up on the employee to monitor progress. The employee follows general instructions and consults with the supervisor as needed on all matters not specifically covered in the original instructions or guidlines. The employee is not permitted to deviate in the sequence of tasks or events without first seeking permission.
    
Work is completed under close supervision. The supervisor gives individual assignments and dictates what is to be done, priorities, deadlines, and quality and quantity of work expected. The employee has minor latitude to rearrange the sequence of completing various tasks or duties based on changed work situations, workflow, etc. The supervisor reviews the completed work product or service to ensure the methods used are technically accurate and in compliance with established procedures.
    
Work is completed under general supervision following standardized procedures and/or general work instructions. The employee typically has a variety of tasks to complete but clearly understands the supervisors expectations for outcomes. With supervisory approval, the employee may have some latitude to establish their own work priorities.
    
Work is completed under indirect, broad supervision. The supervisor makes assignments by defining planned objectives, priorities, and mutually agreed to deadlines. The employee is given latitude to handles problems as they arise and can make deviations in the work assignment in accordance with general policies or accepted practices as long as the end results meet established standards. The supervisor reviews completed work after the fact for technical soundness and adhearance to established policy.
    
At this level, the employee is responsible for planning and carrying out their assignments and resolving most conflicts when they arise. The employee is given latitude and discretion to determine how and when the results or operational goals will be achieved, provided that activities are consistent with approved operating plans and objectives. The supervisor reviews work for feasibility, compatibility with other work projects or programs, or effectiveness in meeting expected results.
    
Work is completed under administrative direction where work assignments or objectives are stated in broadly defined terms. The employee has full discretion to plan and carry out programs or projects independently so long as they follow the defined mission or strategy set by senior managment. Programs or projects that will impact other functional areas usually require prior approval before implementation.
    
At this level, the employee is generally free from supervision and is subject only to broad policy, general management guidance and/or strategies set by the Board or at the State or Federal level.
